CCRE HOUSING SUMMIT
The Center for California Real Estate's flagship event of the year, the CCRE Housing Summit: Charting California’s Future, takes place on Wednesday, October 30 at the Conrad Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
This Summit brings together thought leaders from various sectors – government, business, and academia – to address the most pressing challenges facing California's housing market.
The CCRE Summit features a series of panels and keynote speeches, focusing on core themes: analyzing the current state of homeownership, exploring broad strategies for enhancing housing supply, and considering policy and political strategies to address current housing demands.
Through these discussions, the Summit aims to identify and promote innovative and practical solutions to play an integral role in shaping the future of real estate and housing in California.

9 AM - 9:45 AM: Morning KeynoteToni G. Atkins Senate President pro Tempore Emeritus Senate President pro Tempore Emeritus Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) was born and raised in rural southwestern Virginia, the daughter of a miner and a seamstress, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Emory & Henry College in Virginia. In 2016, Atkins was elected to represent the 39th District in the state Senate, where she has continued to advocate on behalf of women, LGBTQ, the climate, and increasing the state’s supply of affordable housing. Among the bills she has authored was SB 2, which created a permanent source of funding for affordable housing, a signature piece of legislation she worked on for several years. After just one year, she was selected by her colleagues to serve as Senate President pro Tempore. In March 2018, she was sworn in, becoming the first woman and the first openly LGBTQ person to lead the Legislature’s upper house. Atkins is the first person in 150 years, and the third person in California history, to lead both houses of the Legislature. Throughout her career, Atkins has been a champion for affordable housing, the natural environment, healthcare, veterans, women, and the LGBTQ community.

1:30 PM - 2:30: Afternoon KeynoteDr. Douglas W. Diamond 2022 Nobel Laureate Douglas W. Diamond is the 2022 recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his groundbreaking research on banks and financial crises. He specializes in the study of financial intermediaries, financial crises, and liquidity. Diamond is the Merton H. Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He has been on the faculty since 1979. Diamond is a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Diamond was president of the American Finance Association and the Western Finance Association, and is a fellow of the Econometric Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Finance Association. In 2012 he received the Morgan Stanley-American Finance Association Award for Excellence in Finance and in 2016 he received the CME Group- Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Prize in Innovative Quantitative Applications. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Diamond has taught at Yale and was a visiting professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the University of Bonn. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Brown University in 1975 and a PhD in 1980 in economics from Yale University.
